Those are not loglines, those are tag lines.

A logline is a succinct, one sentence synopsis of a film.

Tag lines are the cute lines used in advertising.

Hey Steve,

I wasn't attacking Tom Cruise movies (I like a handful of them, though IMO, most are suspect), I was attacking Tom Cruise. The next Tom Cruise movie you watch, try watching it with the "can't act his way out of a paper bag" mindset. You'll notice it. It's a stunning revalation. This isn't some cognitive dissonance thing here, a LOT of people share my viewpoint.

Take Top Gun (sure it's cheezy but I won't deny how enjoyable it is). After Goose dies and Maverick goes to the wake/funeral (whatever the fuck it is), look at how hard Tom Cruise tries to cry--and watch him fail miserably. "Crashed and burned."

I mean hey, if you think he's a decent actor, that's fine. Nothing wrong with opinion. There is one thing I'm sure we can agree on, though: he's a wayyyy better actor than Keanu Reeves.

Fine, I'll say it... Tom Cruise is no doubt a top 10 actor since the 80's (i object to the negativity in the 80's tv show episode). I've listed 22 of his top movies since Risky Business. I personally love 15 of 22, with 5 borderlines (using Gord's 1/2/3 baseball evaluation), only 2 movies I didn't care for... out of 22 since 1983. You can't knock the guy for Cocktail (personal fav), Days of Thunder (guys guy movie), A few good men, the firm, interview with a vampire, not to mention all 3 mission impossibles & war of the worlds. Top Gun may be regarded as one of the ultimate guys movies ever.

Don't worry Tom, I got your back!

i am beyond delighted to see the birdcage as one of your all time favs...most people i know either don't really know that movie or think it's just so-so which i don't get at all. i could watch that movie every day for a year and never get tired of it. several others i agree w strongly are anchorman, office space, and while i don't know that i would put the naked gun on my top 15 list, the scene you listed as your favorite is one of the best scenes in a comedy EVER!!

good list, gordie!! :)
